Meet
A Presenter:
Claire Stock
Claire
Stock, from the City of Edmonton, Alberta, will tell
you how to take back the media and create good cycling
and walking messages in Getting Your Message Out,
Workshop #28.
"For
the past year, I have been project managing a streetscape
and roadway redesign project to transform 2.6 km (1.63
miles) of roadway along the north edge of Downtown Edmonton
into a green and walkable street," reports Claire.
"The roadway travels through a mixed-use area of
residential, educational, commercial and light industrial
sites, and is a central component to the City of Edmonton's
Multi-use Trail Corridor

Tips for Madison
All
packed and ready for Madison? A couple of suggestions.
First, check your carrier to see what items are allowed
these days, and what you must pack in your checked luggage.
For instance, the Orbitz
site notes that "nearly all liquids
and gels, including beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion,
toothpaste, hair gel, and many cosmetics are prohibited
in carry-on baggage, and must be in checked baggage."
However, the same site notes that, at least as we write
this, laptop computers, cell phones, iPods and other
portable electronic devices are permitted, which is
good news for those presenters who decided that the
long plane flight would be the perfect time to touch
up their presentations. But don't try to carry that
coffee from the gate area on with you!

Updates
for Mobile Workshops, and Walks and Bike Rides.
While you're checking the conference web site for updates,
note that several mobile workshops were switched around
at the last minute. Also, the Madison local host committee
added a few more walks and bicycle rides that you can
take during any free time you might squeeze out of the
conference. You'll find those details on our Mobile
Workshops page, and our Walks
and Bike Rides page.

Raffle Sponsored by Conference Exhibitors
The
exhibitors at this year's Pro Walk/Pro Bike conference,
lead by Lisa of Sportworks and Sue of Cycl-Safe, have
planned a special raffle for conference attendees. The
prizes are three $100 gift certificates at Performance
Bicycle. Exhibit Vendor Raffle Cards containing questions
that can be correctly answered by visiting each of the
exhibitors will be available at the Pro Walk/Pro Bike
registration desk. All you have to do is to pick up
a raffle card, visit each exhibit booth in the Madison
Ballroom, and correctly answer the questions on your
card. The raffle begins during the opening reception
on Tuesday evening and continues throughout the conference.
Return your completed card to the registration desk
by Friday morning before the closing plenary begins.
Only cards with the correct answers will be entered
into a drawing. The drawing will be held at the closing
plenary on Friday. Don't miss your chance to win one
of these $100 gift certificates from Performance Bicycle! |

The
Saris
Cycling Group will sponsor this year's Pro
Walk/Pro Bike Party on Thursday night. Saris is headquartered
in Madison, with its offices in an old farm house that
has been expanded over the years. They design and build
nearly all of their products -- rollers, trainers, power
meters, and more -- in a plant right behind their offices.
|
| Those
products include the bicycle racks used during the conference
and also donated by Saris. The group has a long history
of working within the community and supporting advocacy
through programs such as Bike Town, the Saris Spoke Out
(preventing child abuse) and support for the Bicycle Federation
of Wisconsin. We're pleased to have their support for
our Thursday night party; these get-togethers have been
a mainstay at Pro Walk/Pro Bike conferences for decades.
Providing an opportunity for entertainment, casual networking,
relaxation and fun, this year’s venue — the
Memorial Union at the University of Wisconsin overlooking
Lake Mendota — is no exception. We’ve reserved
two of the largest rooms the Memorial Union has to offer.
The Grand Hall on the fourth level will feature music
by Harmonious Wail, arguably the most
popular band in Madison and highly recommended by our
Local Host Committee. Tripp Commons on the second floor
will provide a quieter environment for conversation as
well as scenic views of the lake from the Tripp Commons
Deck. Thanks to the support of the Saris Cycling Group,
this year's Thursday-night party is sounding like a huge
success. Don't miss it! |
